In the Central African Republic, the Hospitaller Works support a maternity ward and a centre for disabled orphans with 40 children. In India, they manage the
Shadipur Malta School, with a clinic for 300 children from the New Delhi outskirts. In
Syria, the Hospitaller Works support the Syrian
Knights' work in two clinics for minors in
Damascus and a clinic school in Aleppo. In Vietnam, they help an orphanage with 700 children in Saigon, with a noviciate for young nuns with 60 postulants.
• General care - In most of these institutions, general care accompanies or precedes specific treatment, since in the majority of cases leprosy is diagnosed during a routine medical examination.
The Works also
participate in treatment supplied in clinics in Cameroon (Yaoundé, Djoum, Touboro) in the Côte d'Ivoire (Koni, Komborodougou), in Gabon, in Lebanon where they manage 14 clinics (Malta-Lebanon association), in Mali, in Niger, in Central Africa, in Senegal (Gorée) and in Chad (Am Toukouie and Biobé).
• Specific operations - In Mali we are installing a dialysis unit and in the Côte d'Ivoire we are participating in the construction of the NIAMGON clinic.

RELIEF OPERATIONS
General framework
The French Civil Defence has a national directorate, created in 1951 under the Ministry of the Interior and departmental offices under the prefects.
In times of peace, the Civil Defences mission is to guarantee the safety of people and things against risks of accident, damages or disasters of any nature; in times of war, to ensure the protection of the population.
The means at its disposal include specialist units with air wings, fire brigade, first-aid experts and voluntary firemen.
